Being an 'Active' Christian!

by Kerrie Pipkin

During the month of June, I attended Upward Bound which is a college preparatory program. I loved it. I stayed in the college dorms and got to meet a lot of new people.

There were a lot of positive things – and one major negative– to me at least. From many conversations with the other students, I learned that I was the only ‘active' Christian. By active, I mean: attend youth meetings, Sunday worship and church fellowship events. I really don't understand why!

In your daily Christian life, have you ever just been so full of joy that you want to share it? If you have, then you can relate to me right now. Every time I get around a crowd of people (like Upward Bound) I bring up the Lord. More than half of the time I hear, "I would go to church but I don't have the right kind of clothes," or "I don't feel accepted," or " I can be a Christian without going to church."

Of course, I had something to say about all of these comments but the main topic I want to elaborate on is, "I can be a Christian without going to church." That statement is true, but to me it is important to go to church and to be an active Christian. Satan has his ways of sneaking up on you. He tries to distract you from God. Being in church and having fellowship with other Christians is one way God helps us fight Satan. If you say you are a Christian, I believe that you should be actively showing your faith, you should go to church.
