We Can

by Mona Hunter

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
---Acts 1:8

We Can is the name of our new 6 week Bible study series beginning in each of our Partners churches. Sometimes as Christians we are more "we can't" than "we can". "We can't — because we don't have time," "We can't because we're tired." "We can't because it won't change anything anyway." (Those were personal confessions, not necessarily applicable to anyone else.) Although, these statements can be very true, we often leave out the role of God and His Holy Spirit when we are called to serve Him and —"we can't".

We can't do anything good by ourselves. But God gives us power to do anything that He calls us to do. In Acts 1:8, God promises power when we are His witnesses. He wants us to be His witnesses anywhere we find ourselves—close to home, at work, when we travel– anywhere.

We are witnesses anywhere we happen to be. The question is, "What kind of witness are we?" or "Who or what are we witnesses of?" Our Bible studies will lead us to understand the importance of our witness, how to pass on our faith to the next generation, what makes a mission minded church & community, and it will give us concrete ideas on how to reach out and witness to the lost around. "We can" because God can. Don't you want to let Him do it in your life?
