Summer Refreshment
by BJ Armstrong
Summer time in Oklahoma is usually a very dry time. As we move into
July and August, we will more than likely face hot weather with very
little rain. It seems that no matter how much rain we get in April, May,
and June, our soil doesn’t take long to dry out, especially when we face
temperatures of more than 100 degrees for two straight months. To put it
simply, the weather around here during the summer months is almost
unbearable.
Summer time can dry us out spiritually as well. The truth is our
spiritual life needs as much, or more, refreshing than our physical bodies
do. What can we do to seek spiritual refreshment? As you very well may
know, Festive Hope has returned! Festive Hope
is a good way to refresh us in a different way than our Sunday morning
worship services do. It’s a time when all of our Partners can
come together in an informal setting and worship our Lord in song and
scripture. Unlike Sunday mornings, Festive Hope offers
discussion time at the end of our service for everyone to reflect on and
discuss the scripture and the message that God has brought to us. We began
this service again in April, and it was a great success!
So don’t let your spiritual lives begin to dry out. Our next Festive
Hope is two weeks away (June 26), and we hope that all can
attend. Remember, just as our physical bodies need refreshment from the
sun at the lake or in our swimming pool, our spiritual life needs
refreshment both in Sunday morning worship and Festive Hope.
It’s only one time a month, so we hope to see all of our Partners there
as we sing, discuss, and fellowship! To help celebrate we will start with
a wiener roast in the Parish Hall at 5:30pm. Hot Dogs, buns and sauce will
be provided. Chips, snacks, or whatever else you like with your hot dogs
will need to be furnished by those who attend.
