Good News!

By Ronald Boelte

Jesus has Risen! Yes that is good news. It is what we base our faith on, but I want to share is some other good news.

The Colloquy Committee has met and has accepted my application for the Colloquy program. I have a copy of the letter in my office if anyone is interested in reading it.

The next step in the colloquy process is a 90 minute interview at St Louis on May 9 at 2:45 PM. To be prepared for this interview I have been asked to read a variety of things; such as the Book of Concord, the 2001 Handbook of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, plus other documents that have been published by the Commission on Theology and Church Relations.

After this interview the Colloquy Committee will determine what I still may need for me to be ordained. That could include some course to be taken at one of our seminaries, or to become involved in a mentor program.

If I have to take some seminary courses, it will mean I will have to go to the St. Louis Seminary to take those classes.

With a mentor program a Pastor within the District will be asked to help me cover whatever courses I have been given, and he would help me to complete those courses.

It is also possible but rare that I will not have to do anything. In that case I would make plans with the District President, Paul Hartman, and would be ordained.

As you can see this is not something that is guaranteed. I have to put in a lot of effort and reading even before I get to the interview. After the interview I still may have a lot of work to do. I will keep you all informed as everything develops.

I hope you will keep me in your prayers for the next few weeks, especially on May 9 from 2:45 to 4:30pm.

God’s Blessing to all of you.
