A Succession of Godly Kings
by BJ Armstrong

Much is said of the kings of Judah and Israel during Old Testament times. Most of what is said is negative; for there were many kings that were detestable before God. But there were some kings who restored Israel after such detestable kings. Because of such kings, Israel and Judah were spared from earlier destruction.

Amaziah, Uzziah, and Jotham are all kings that are not mentioned regularly, but were responsible for bringing the kingdom of Judah back to God, even if it was only for a short time. These rulers were not perfect by any means, but they did show an interest and devotion in the things of God.

This week's devotion does not necessarily focus on a direct correlation between these three kings of the Old Testament and our lives today. However, God's Word speaks to us in different places at different times. As you read this week, think about the lives of these three kings, the times in which they lived, and the impact their rule had on God's plan for obedience and reconciliation.
