Ehud and the Fat Man
by Pastor Ronald Boelte

Ehud is one of the early Judges of Israel. We are not told what evil the Israelites had done but once again an enemy is allowed to conquer them, because they have not followed God's laws.

The Moabites who are ruled by Eglon king of Moab are now in power over Israel. What happens next is a historical account found in the Bible in Judges 3:12-30. What we see in this account is a very, very large king, who is the enemy of the Israelites. We also have a Benjamite named Ehud. Ehud was called by God to deliver the people from Eglon's rule. We are told that he is left-handed and that his dad's name is Gera.

By a ruse Ehud is able to gain entry into King Eglon's presence and is able to kill him with a two-edged sword. Later on Ehud takes a small army and defeats the Moabites in battle. End of story, right! Just like Paul Harvey's "Rest of the Story" we can see so much more in this story if we look closely to how it can be used to show us Jesus. We can also use it to help us in our walk in following Jesus.

This week we will go through this story of a Israelite judge. We will take a closer look at Ehud, Eglon: the fat man, and Gera, the father of Ehud. We will also look closely as to how Jesus is the rest of the story. And we will try to apply all we learn into our own lives, as we try to break the cycle of sin and defeat the enemy of our own mind and body.

Read the story carefully, and meditate on the Word of God letting this meditation flow into praise and thanksgiving to help you defeat the enemy that is plaguing you.
