Monday

Read: Exodus 2:18-3:1

Meditation: We see that Jethro has two names. Ex. 2:18 tells us his name is Reuel, which means "friend of God" and that Ex. 3:1 calls him Jethro, the priest of Midian. Also we see the connection that Moses has with this man as his son-in-law. While these passages may look like a few days have passed, in reality over 40 years have gone by. During this time Jethro has taught Moses a great deal about God, about the desert, and how to live as a family worshiping God. This has prepared Him for the mission that God is about to call him to do.

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me to be Your friend just like Jethro. Help me to reach out to my family with the knowledge of You.

Tuesday

Read: Exodus 4

Meditation: Moses receives his instructions from God about how he is to bring the people of Israel out of Egypt. Before Moses leaves, he goes back to Jethro to get his blessing. Jethro sends him on his way with his blessing. Somewhere between this event and his meeting with Jethro again in chapter 18, Moses sends his wife and two children back to Jethro for safe keeping. If they had stayed with Moses they could have been in danger from the Egyptians.

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me to be one that is willing to follow Your will for my life, but also for those that are also in my family.

Wednesday

Read: Exodus 18:1-7

Meditation: This chapter is about Moses, and the affairs of His family, especially Jethro. We see Jethro bringing back to Moses his wife and children and Moses entertains His father-in-law with great respect. Jethro also comes to meet Moses to congratulate him, to hear the story of how God had saved the people of Israel, and to honor Moses. What a great relationship they must have had with each other.

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me to have a great relationship with my family, especially my in-laws.

Thursday

Read: Exodus 18:8-12

Meditation: Moses shares the story of the great things God has done for Israel. The impression that it had on Jethro was one of praise, joy and thankfulness. Jethro offers sacrifices in the presence of Moses and Aaron and many other friends and family for God's great works after which a feast was served, all of it to the glory of God. Here we see that Aaron and Moses defer to Jethro who was a priest of God in the offering of the sacrifice.

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me to see the great wonders You have done and to offer my praise and thankfulness to You.

Friday

Read: Exodus 18:13-27

Meditation: Before Jethro leaves the camp he see something that concerns him. The fact that Moses is the only judge and that he has to settle all the people's problems. Jethro advises Moses about the management of the business of judges in Israel. His advice is to take other people from the camp and make them his assists. After some time we see Moses taking Jethro's advice.

Prayer Starter: Lord, even Moses needed some advice and he was smart enough to take it. Lord help me to see that I often need help and good advice and help me to use it for Your glory.

Saturday

Read: Judges 1:6    1 Samuel 15:6

Meditation: We see in these two verses the kindness offered by Israel to the descendants of Jethro. Here they are also called the Kenites. First the are given some land that is allotted to the tribe of Judah in the nation of Israel. And then later on they are warned by Saul and taken under special protection for the kindness that their ancestors had showed to Israel after leaving Egypt.

Prayer Starter: Lord, even the good-will shown to God's people, even when it is in the smallest of instances, was rewarded by You. What a great and wonderful God You really are. Help me to praise You, O Lord. Amen.
