Read: Genesis 14:17-20
Meditation: This little story is not much, but we see a lot
happening here. First Melchizedek goes out to meet Abraham and brings
him wine and bread as a true priest of God. Even back then, wine and
bread had a significant function in the acknowledgment and worship of
God. Abraham also recognizes Melchizedek as greater than himself and
offers to him the tithe from the battle, the priestly portion for those
that served the true God.
Prayer Starter: Lord help me to be one that brings You
honor.
Read: Psalm 110
Meditation: Psalm 110:4 names Melchizedek as representative of the
priestly line through which a future king of Israel's Davidic line was
ordained.
The future king - in Christian belief, Jesus Christ - is referred to as a
"priest forever after the order of Melchizedek".
Prayer Starter: Lord, help me to focus on Your son Jesus as my
priestly king.
Read: Hebrews 7:1-3
Meditation: Hebrews 7:3 in the New Testament refers to Melchizedek
as a king "without father or mother or genealogy", a reference
which some Christians take as referring to Melchizedek's true nature as an
angel or even as Jesus Himself, appearing thousands of years before His
Earthly incarnation. However, if we look close to this writer's method
reasoning we see a picture that does not point to Melchizedek as Jesus. From
the original Greek the writer is saying that simply he does not know
Melchizedek's parentage, but that God Himself had appointed him as a king
and a priest for Abraham and the other people that lived in the area of
Salem.
Prayer Starter: Lord help me to see You as the one who has called
me to be at work for You in this world.
Read: Hebrews 5
Meditation: In these passages we see the writer begin the argument
about high priest and who is the best one. Jesus is the eternal High Priest
serving before God Himself and for those that believe we can always go to
Him for intercession, and His faithfulness far out weighs any earthly high
priest we could ever have lived.
Prayer Starter: Lord Jesus, thank You for being my High Priest,
and that I can always come to You with my concerns and prayers.

Read: Hebrews 6
Meditation: While Melchizedek is not mentioned in these verse, the
writer continues to build the case that Jesus is our High Priest. As you
read, think about how these verses help you to see Jesus as a High Priest in
heaven and that He is there to serve us as we serve Him.
Prayer Starter: Lord help me to be one that serves You and one
that will bring my concerns to You.
Read: Hebrews 7
Meditation:
Here the writer of Hebrews continues to use rabbinical method of
argument, which simply stated says if the Bible does not specifically
say something about a person, place, or incident then various
conclusions could be drawn to help the discussion being presented. This
was a common form of argument found during this time when Hebrews was
written. When the author talks about no beginning or end of days he
means there is a lack of information from scriptures that does not
identify Melchizedek's origin or when he died.
This does not mean that Melchizedek was Jesus or an angel, it simply
means we can not prove where he came from or when he died.
Prayer Starter: Lord help me to understand what is important
about these passages and how I can use them in my own walk of faith.
