Jesus' Second Coming
Part 1 by Pastor Ronald Boelte

A Thousand-year Reign or Resurrection, Judgment, and Eternal Reward?

See also:

There has been much written by many different people about Jesus' second coming, but human doctrines and speculation have caused so much confusion in recent years that I thought it was time to go back to the source and see what the Bible says about this subject.

The Left Behind books talk about the doctrine of pre-millennialism. A few of the basic beliefs of this doctrine is that Jesus will reign on earth from Jerusalem for a thousand year period, and that there will be a rapture and a 7 year tribulation before Jesus' reign begins. While I have read some of the books and I do like them, what does the Bible tells us of this second coming? Does it talk of tribulation, rapture, and Jesus' reign, or does it teach of resurrection, judgment and eternal rewards/punishments or does it teach us about both.

What does the Bible also tell us of the earth? Will it continue eternally or be destroyed at the end of time? These and many other questions are addressed in the Bible and we will try to answer all of them. However, as much we would like to know all the answers, God has not answered all the questions we may have on this subject of Jesus' second coming.

In the next two weeks I will try to show what the Bible teaches on the subject of Jesus' second coming. I will try not to be bias in this and let you draw your own conclusions on what the Bible teaches on this subject. However, there is no way we can go over ever passage in the Bible in two weeks that talks about this subject. Some preachers have spent their whole life studying and talking about this subject. My hope is that we can get to the basics so that you will have a better understanding on this subject.
