Monday

Read: Luke 14

Meditation: In this parable Jesus commands us to go and quickly invite people to the banquet. This is not just the command or calling of the ordained, for all of us have been called into the priesthood by our Baptism. 1 Peter 2:9 says But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for inviting me to the wedding banquet, and yet there is still room for many more. Who is it that You may want me to go and invite and help me not to get discourage if they offer excuses for not coming.

Tuesday

Read: Matthew 28

Meditation: Look closely at verse 19 and see how many commands you can find. We may think we see four, but in the original language there is one command and it is to "make Disciples." Now when we see the word go we may think of it as a command, but in reality the word go is a participle in form and means simply that "as you go or as you are going" make disciples. Jesus is assuming that His disciples will not be setting around waiting for the world to come to them. He assumes we will be on the move and that along the way we will make disciples.

Prayer Starter: Jesus, I do love being one of Your disciples, and I thank You for that privilege. Help me as I am going my way this day to fulfill Your command to make disciples of those I meet. Let it be so natural that they see You in me.

Wednesday

Read: Hebrews 11-12

Meditation: There is much that can get in the way of our going, but we need to see that we need to go and not stop. History is full of people that would not let anything get in the way of their doing that one thing that they want to get done. Going forth in the name of Jesus can and is often discouraging, but Jesus' command is to go and He will be there to help. He does not let us go on our own.

Prayer Starter: Send me Lord, I know You will go with me. Help me to offer my service to You and Your mission as a living sacrifice for You.

Thursday

Read: Matthew 5

Meditation: As people of the kingdom we are called to live by a different standard. In the Sermon of the Mount we are asked to do things that may seem beyond our abilities, and yet we are called to a life of righteousness not a life of fairness, and we are guided by different values than the world. We walk in a world that looks out for number one and yet we are called by Jesus to go the extra mile. Jesus tells us we need to have healthy boundaries. Jesus calls us to live as the salt and light of this world. There will be times that we will need to go the extra mile to accomplish this.

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me to have a heart that is willing to go the extra mile with those people that are so hard to live with at times. I can do all things with Your help and I know You will give me the strength I need to do it.

Friday

Read: John 13

Meditation: Jesus washed the disciples' feet. This task was that of a servant, usually the lowest servant of the house. Washing feet is not an easy task and yet it is a beautiful story of love from Jesus. It is also a mission He has asked each of us to do. Washing feet requires humbleness because it goes against our nature. When we know our purpose in life and that our identity is in Jesus, we are freed to serve others without fear or resentment for He has done this for each of us.

Prayer Starter: Lord, Your servant-hood of washing feet humbles me. Thank You for cleansing me through Your servant-hood and help me to follow Your example this day.

Saturday

Read: Acts 1-2

Meditation:
Go into the world and make disciples in my name. This command of Jesus forces us to look beyond the walls of our church, our community or even our state. The mission does begin here in our church and town, but we must see the need for its expansion outside of our comfortable little world we live in. What are some ways you can think of that will fulfill the command of Jesus to go into the world?

Prayer Starter: Father, You have loved the world so much to send Your only Son into it to suffer and die for it. May my life and ministry be motivated by Your love to build bridges to those so that they may also be connect to You.
