Sent Into A Changing World

Read: John 17:15-18

Meditation:
We are the "sent" ones into a world that is hungry to hear the Good News. This is not some new thought or fad. This is the prayer of Jesus. As He faced His own brutal death, Jesus was thinking of us. Jesus knew that we (the disciples) would have to be sent into this ever-changing world. The world is not going to come to us, we have to go to it. We have to take on the world on its own turf. As Christians sent into this world, we don’t get many home games, that is why it is so scary. Isn’t it comforting to know that it’s not only our fellow Christians praying for us, but Jesus Himself prayed for us. The world has changed; God’s word has not. As vessels of the Church, we have been sent to sail into the waters of a changing world with an unchangeable message of God’s love in Christ Jesus.

Prayer Starter: Lord, give me the strength to teach Your message on someone else’s turf. Thank You, Jesus, for praying for me, and I know that You will lead me through whatever rough waters I come into contact with.

Tuesday

Sent To Do Whatever We Can

Read: 1 Corinthians 12:6-7

Meditation: The Spirit has gifted each and every one of us with various spiritual gifts and abilities. These gifts are given for the common good, and God expects that we will use them to serve and bless His Church. When we do not use the gifts that God gives us, the work of the entire team is diminished. There are many factors that may make it seem like the mission is impossible, but remember, God has gifted us with extraordinary abilities to accomplish His goals.

Prayer Starter: Lord, thank You for the gifts You have given me. Help me to recognize my gifts and use them to help my team, Your church, achieve the goals in which You have set.

Wednesday

Sent Out To A Shaken World

Read: Matthew 27:54

Meditation: We are not only living in a changing world, we are also living in a shaken world. We live in a time when there are hurricanes, tornados, and earthquakes on a regular basis. The recent hurricane that destroyed the Gulf Coast is a good reminder of the disasters, both natural and man made, that we deal with in today’s time. This is where Christians are so important. It’s important for people to be comforted and given hope in times of disaster. We are called to be a light in the darkness of today’s shaken world.

Prayer Starter: Lord, give me the wisdom and love to touch people with Your love. Help me to give people hope when it seems that there is nothing to hope for. Help me to be a light in this dark, shaken world.

Thursday

Sent Out With A Purpose

Read: Acts 13:36

Meditation: Our life, like David’s, is meant for a purpose. God gives us the tools needed to reach the world around us. The Bible tells us in John 4:34: "Jesus said to them, ‘My food is to do the will of Him who sent me, and to finish His work.’" We live for the purpose of completing God’s work here on Earth. We often don’t know how this is done, but we have to leave ourselves open to every call God gives us. Until the day we pass from this earth, God is working His good and perfect will in and through us. With this in mind, we should wake up everyday, praying for God to reveal His calling to us for that day.

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me to see Your purpose in my life. Help me to be open to Your good and perfect will. Thank You, Jesus, for praying and giving me the words and actions to complete Your mission.

Friday

Sent To Babylon or Jerusalem?

Read: Matthew 10:16

Meditation: Where do we go? Are we going to be sent to those who we are familiar with, or are we going to be sent to foreign people who scare us a little bit? Jesus tells us both. There are times in our lives when we work good in the people who are closer to us, but sometimes Jesus also sends us among the pagans. Wherever it is, it is important that we remember why we are sent there. We are sent to teach people about God, and to show the same love that Christ showed us.

Prayer Starter: Lord, give me the courage to go to people I know and people I don’t know. Give me the words and actions to show Your love for Your children.

Saturday

Send Me

Read: Isaiah 6:8

Meditation:
We should be excited to be called to such important work. We should be willing to go to places where no one else will go. That’s the point. Jesus went to Damascus. Paul went all over the Roman empire. Luther went deep into Catholic territory. We are not always sent to the places we are more comfortable with. Therefore, we should look forward to God challenging us by sending us to uncomfortable places. As we go about our lives, we should always be willing to say, "Send me, send me."

Prayer Starter: Lord, give me the excitement to teach Your Word everywhere. I look forward to new challenges because I know that You will inspire me, teach me, and give me the courage to be successful in Your work.
