This is probably the toughest command for us to adhere to. Answering this call can result in a lot of positive changes in our life. It can build us up spiritually, increase our faith, improve our relationships, and increase our love for strangers. On the other hand, it can also result in a lot of scary things (notice the word is scary not negative) for us to encounter. As we are "sent" into this ever-changing world, new problems arise.

While the immediate threat to those of us in America is most likely not the loss of our lives, the threat of people mocking us is almost as powerful. Too often we are concerned with what people think of us or how they will react to us, and it seems that this change is for the worse as time moves on. There are other threats that come with accepting the call to be "sent", but the fear of losing the friends that we already have scares us the most.

It’s for this reason that Jesus gives us encouragement in many parts of the Bible. Jesus promises many different things and, while He doesn’t say they all will be pleasant, He does promise that it is all for a purpose. As you read this week, look at the different things in which Jesus promises you, and hopefully this will strengthen you as you receive your call to be "sent." Remember, you are not "sent" alone. You have the love of Christ, as well as the fellowship with those in your church family, to help carry you through the scary times.
