Monday

Read: Psalm 145:14-21

Meditation: God is our example for giving. Throughout all of scripture, God continually opens His hand providing all for His people. His example has caused the community of believers to also open their hands and give. If we trust that the open hand of God will satisfy the desires of every living thing then why would we need to keep our hands closed.

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me to place my trust in You. You have opened Your hand for me. Help me now to open my hands to others.

Tuesday

Read: Matthew 6:24-34

Meditation: Money is not evil in itself. It does however make a terrible master. For most of the people in America we live with that master and the attitude of "more". If only I had more!!! Breaking from that desire for more is not easy and many need help to get out from under the master of money. It is a daily struggle as we look to whom we will serve; money or God.

Prayer Starter: Jesus help me to see You as the one I need to serve. I know that I am in bondage to money and I need Your help to escape. Grant me the discipline I need to handle my money in such a way that will glorify You and enable me to be content.

Wednesday

Read: Exodus 4:1-20

Meditation: Give what you have. In this story we see Moses offering a stick, a piece of wood (staff) to God and God has made it into an instrument for His glory. Not all giving is money. What do you have that can be giving to the Lord that you may have considered worthless? God can take it and use it for His glory.

Prayer Starter: Father, I now offer to You what I have. It has all been given to me by You. Help me to use it to bring relief and comfort to those that cry out to You.

Thursday

Read: Mark 14:3-9

Meditation: We should give extravagantly. In this story we are reminded again that when we give beyond the limit of reason or what is necessary God will bless it and us. The early church of Acts also gave extravagantly and as a result we see the church increasing in size daily. These acts of giving reach much more than the church, they also reach out into the community and world.

Prayer Starter: Lord, You have given to me in so many extravagant ways. Help me to give in these same ways back to You.

Friday

Read: Luke 12:22-40

Meditation: Giving can make a difference eternally. Jesus is asking us to see where our true treasure is for that is where our heart is also. The mission that Jesus has given to all that believe is to invest our hearts, lives and possessions into those things that do have eternal consequences. How many of us have had our lives changed eternally to the investment of others?

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me see that my life should have its roots invested in what is eternal. This life is only the training ground for what is to come. My life, heart and possessions can make a difference in Your kingdom.

Saturday

Read: 1 Chronicles 21

Meditation:
This story shows to give what will cost. David could have gotten everything for free to offer to God, but it would not have been the sacrifice God had asked for. It is so easy for us to look for an easy, less demanding way when we are asked to give. There is no way we can pay God back for all He has given us, but we have a mission that Jesus has given to each of us. We are to "offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God" Romans 12:1. The next time you are asked to give something to God, don't look for what will be easy or cost very little. Instead offer a true sacrifice of service to God.

Prayer Starter: Jesus, You held nothing back. Help me to offer what truly cost me and will be an acceptable sacrifice to You.
