Monday

A Farmer’s Prayer

Read: Matthew 9:35-38

Meditation: The Marines are looking for "The Few and The Proud." The Army is looking for those who are willing to "Be All That You Can Be." Jesus is looking for "Laborers" – laborers who are willing to go out into the fields of the world. In this passage, Jesus saw the potential for a great spiritual harvest. Yet, there were not enough laborers to send out into the fields. What did Jesus do? He told us to pray: "Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest fields." As you can see that even though the workers were few, Jesus says, "pray" for workers to spread out into the world and spread the Gospel of Christ. If Jesus found prayer so powerful in His mission to set the world Ablaze!, then shouldn’t we?

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to pray the things I ought to be praying. I pray for workers in the field. I pray that You would equip them with the knowledge and excitement to proclaim Your Gospel and reap Your harvest!

Tuesday

The Disciples Prayer

Read: Matthew 6:9-10

Meditation: Prayer, in some ways, is such a simple act and expression of faith. On the other hand, prayer - meaningful and genuine prayer - is one of the hardest things for us as Christians to engage in on a daily basis. Jesus knows and understands us very well. He know how inadequate we can feel. So He teaches us how to pray by offering us "The Lord’s Prayer."

Prayer Starter: Our Father, who art in heaven...

Wednesday

A Child’s Prayer

Read: Psalm 46:10

Meditation: Doesn’t this verse just say it all? I know in Jesus Club, when the kids arrive and are running around everywhere, the only way to get their attention is to announce it is time to pray. We can learn something from this! Our lives are busy, and many times we run around like chickens with our heads cut off, and don’t understand why we can’t get any peace in our lives. It’s at those times when we should stop, like children, and just be still and talk to God.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to pray like children. Give me the heart of a child. Lord, give me the ability that when life gets out of control, to stop and pray.

Thursday

Jesus' Prayer

Read: Mark 1:35

Meditation: Jesus gave us a prayer to teach us how to pray, which we looked at in the disciples prayer, but we have to wonder: "how did Jesus pray?" There are four things we need to look at when we examine Jesus’ prayers. First, Jesus would frequently withdraw for a time of prayer; second, His prayers were intertwined with thanksgiving and praise; third, He was incredibly honest with God; and fourth, He interceded for others. This is a model of prayer that could begin to change our own prayer lives.

Prayer Starter: Jesus, teach me to pray as You prayed. Lord, help me think of others and always remember to give You thanksgiving and praise.

Friday

A Soldier’s Prayer

Read: Ephesians 6:17-18

Meditation: As young boys many of us would spend hours "playing army." Whether it was in our own backyards, or at a friends house, as children we were fascinated with being soldiers and everything that went with it. We would envision rushing into a mob of enemy soldiers and winning a great battle. However, when we think of being a "Christian" soldier, the objectives are completely different. As Christians, Paul tells us that we should pray. Three times in this verse Paul mentions that we should pray! We have to understand that prayer is not necessarily to prepare us for battle, rather, it is the battle itself. The battle we face is against Satan and his demonic forces, and the battleground for that is prayer. Satan hates it when we pray. Therefore, we should always pray, and focus on our prayer, because this is where we face Satan man to man in battle.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to always be faithful in prayer. Help me to understand that my prayer life is my rush into the enemy’s stronghold. I know that if I have a strong prayer life, that in the end I will win the battle for you.

Saturday

A Friend’s Prayer

Read: Revelation 3:20

Meditation:
Prayer is at times difficult and hard. While at times we yearn for it, we also hide from it. Prayer is in many ways the battle. Prayer is, however, bathed in grace and love. God hears us not because of our earnest efforts, but because of nail-pierced hands on our behalf. In prayer we are not trying to overcome God’s reluctance; we are taking hold of His willingness. We dare not make prayer about us. It is about Him, not me. Jesus is our friend! He prayed the price, he suffered the pain, and he took away our sins. We should look to prayer in manner that Jesus has our back; just as any good friend would.

Prayer Starter: Lord, help me always to look to You as my friend. Thank You, for paying the price for my sins. Thank You for always being there for me no matter what I get myself in too. You are truly my best friend.
