What We Believe
by BJ Armstrong
Confirmation day is an exciting day in our churches. Today in Lone Wolf
we are fortunate enough to be able to share in the profession of faith
with one of our young people. Confirmation studies help our youth deal
with the emotions of their lives, while at the same time teaching them the
fundamental Lutheran teachings. The problem with the classes is that many
(myself included) get confirmed and then take a vacation from church for a
while, sometimes even for the rest of their lives. Today we celebrate with
Chelsea Nahrgang the accomplishments that God has worked through her
during her life thus far, but at the same time encourage her as she
continues in her walk with God.
We would all probably agree that confirmation classes are essential to
our growth not only as Lutherans, but as Christians. The problem is that
as the years go by many of us often forget some of the basic things we
learned during our years as confirmation students. It’s important for us
to realize that confirmation is not the climax of our Christian faith;
rather, it’s only the beginning. Therefore, we should continue to
meditate and learn more about God’s word every day of our lives. This
week we will look at certain passages in the bible from the Lutheran
perspective. Remember, this week’s devotion, like confirmation, is just
the beginning. Hopefully these readings will inspire all of us to continue
to study and learn more about our faith; which, in return, will give us
the confidence and the strength we need to profess it.
