Why Is Christ’s resurrection so important and comforting?

Read: Romans 1:4  John 8:28  1 Corinthians 15:20  John 11:25-26

Meditation:
It seems wrong to say that Christ’s resurrection is often overlooked, but it often is. It’s not that people don’t want to focus on it, it’s just so often we get caught up in His miracles, suffering, and death we forget about the most important part. Without the resurrection, Christ doesn’t defeat death; therefore, there would be no resurrection for any of us. Because He did rise on that third day, His resurrection gives us comfort because it proves many things. These verses tell us that Christ’s resurrection proves that He is the Son of God; His resurrection proves His doctrine (word) is true; His resurrection proves that the Father accepted His sacrifice for our sins; and His resurrection proves that all believers in Christ will rise to eternal life.

Prayer Starter: Thank You Jesus for giving us Your power over death, and giving us Your word to assure us of that power.

Tuesday

Where did Christ ascend to?

Read: Ephesians 1:20-23

Meditation: I know this is an obvious answer, so maybe the question should be, "Why to the right hand?" This verse seems to indicate that Jesus, being true God and true man, is present everywhere. God tells us that not only is He present everywhere, but also now fully exercises His divine power over the whole universe. Jesus sits at God’s authoritative side (the right hand symbolizes power and authority) and lives and reigns over all creation.

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for placing Jesus in Your right hand, and giving Him authority over my life.

Wednesday

What comfort do we get for Christ’s ascension to the right hand of God?

Read: John 16:7  1 John 2:1  Psalm 110:1

Meditation: If you will remember from two weeks ago, we learned that Christ fills three positions in our life: Prophet, Priest, and King. These verses tell us that Jesus didn’t just fill these positions in our life while He was here on earth, but He is filling these positions now as He sits at the right hand of the Father. It is very comforting to have Jesus fulfilling these same duties in our lives today, just like He did when He walked the earth. Jesus is not so far away we can’t see Him or feel Him, He’s right here with us now, continuing His duties as the "Office of Christ."

Prayer Starter: How comforting it is Father to know that Jesus rules from above, and that He still continues to give me the words to speak; that He still intercedes with You on my behalf, and still rules over everything here on Earth.

Thursday

What about Jesus’ second coming?

Read: Matthew 24:7

Meditation: There are many questions about Jesus’ second coming, but one thing He does make clear is that there will be much turmoil in the last days. These are indicators that bring us closer to Christ’s return, and we see some of them in today’s world.

Prayer Starter: Jesus, help me to see the indicators of Your return, but don’t let me get caught up in them. You have given me much to do, so help the indicators create urgency for Your word in my life.

Friday

Should we fear the days preceding Christ’s return?

Read: Luke 21:28  Matthew 24:27

Meditation: While these days will be hard to bear, Jesus assures us that we will have victory and that His coming should be a source of hope and joy. While we shouldn’t be afraid, we should cling to His word for assurance and strength. We should not fear, rather we should look forward to the coming of Christ.

Prayer Starter: Jesus, help me to overcome any fear that I may have about Your coming. I want to be able to look forward to that glorious day.

Saturday

Conclusion

Read: 2 Corinthians 5:15  1 Thessalonians 5:2

Meditation:
Christ has redeemed you. Scripture tells us that Christ had to do this, not only to set us free from the slavery of sin, but also to free us to serve God. Christ’s redemption gives us the freedom to honor God with our whole lives and rejoice in Him here on earth, and forever in heaven. Jesus is here today to be your prophet, to give you the supernatural ability to speak His word. Jesus is still interceding with the Father for us, and Jesus still takes a hands-on approach to ruling His kingdom.

As for His second coming, Jesus tells us not to stand here and look up into the clouds for Him. His coming will be like "a thief in the night," so it will come at a time when we least expect it. He assures us that at that time, we will know that it is Him, and that we will have victory over sin and death.

Prayer Starter: Thank You Jesus for all of the assurances that You have given me in my life. Help me to overcome the urge to just sit and wait. Continue to give me the ability to speak Your word, and to live out my days as a humble and loyal servant.
