Where in the World is God's Son
Now?
Part 8 on the Apostles Creed by

After learning in last week’s devotions what it means to be a
follower of Jesus, you may still be left with one burning question: Where
is Jesus now? The four Gospels tell us about Jesus’ life and
ministry here on Earth, but leave us after His resurrection and right
before His ascension. The book of Acts picks up with Jesus giving some
last words of wisdom and comfort before He ascended into heaven:
"After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave
many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a
period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion,
while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not
leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have
heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you
will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." So when they met together,
they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the
kingdom to Israel?" He said to them: "It is not for you to know
the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will
receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of
the earth." After he said this, he was taken up before their very
eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
-Acts 1:3-9.
This is the last mention of Christ’s physical appearance here on
Earth, but that doesn’t mean He is invisible to us today. Jesus tells us
where He is;
"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the
age."
-Matthew 28:20b;
and that He’ll be back,
"This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will
come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."
-Acts 1:11.
Jesus wants us to know that He will be back, but He doesn’t want us
to wait till He gets back to do His work, so He tells us He will always be
with us. That’s the goal of this week’s devotion: to learn more about
Jesus’ presence in the current kingdom of God, as well as taking a
glance at what His second coming will be like. As you read this week,
think about the ways that Jesus is still present in your life.
