Why Did God's Son have to Die?
Part 6 on the Apostles Creed by BJ Armstrong

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
— Second Article of the Apostles Creed.

A simpler question would be "Why did he die" and the answer would be "to save us from our sins." When you add the word have to it, it becomes a much more complex question, but a real good question to ask. Why did it have to be this way? If God is all forgiving and all-powerful why couldn’t God have found another way? Before we go any farther, ask yourself these two questions:

  • Why did Jesus have to die?
  • Why couldn’t God redeem us some other way?

After you have answered that, now you can start with your devotions for this week. Write your answers down and compare them with the answer you give after your week of devotions.
