The Triune God: God the Father
Part 3 on the Apostles Creed

How is it possible? Three persons; but only one God? These questions
probably went through your mind last week as you were presented with this
concept. Don’t be alarmed; the idea raises many questions in all of our
minds. There’s nothing wrong with being confused about something,
especially when that something is as complex as this. However, just
because we don’t understand something doesn’t mean we shouldn’t
believe it. Last week, we learned that there are many things in the Bible
that we may never understand, in fact the writer of Ecclesiastes tells us
that we don’t have the capability to understand everything about God:
As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a
mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of
all things.
– Ecclesiastes 11:5
When we try to understand difficult concepts such as the "Triune
God" we may think that God is trying to confuse us, but the truth is
He tries to keep us from confusion with verses like this one. God lets us
know that there are going to be certain things that are going to be beyond
our understanding, so that we don’t get confused and be lead into false
teachings. God wants us to study His word rigorously, but His call to us
is to have faith in certain things that we don’t understand.
So why study it if we can’t fully understand it? Even though we may
not be able to have a full understanding of it; there are still many
things we can learn about it. Because it is so complex, it can’t be
taught in one devotion. That is why we break it down by its persons: The
Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. This week we are going to focus on
the first person of the Trinity: The Father. The goal of this devotion is
to give you a better understanding of the work of God as maker of heaven
and earth, and to better understand your responsibilities over creation.
