A Shepherd's Christmas!

by Mona Hunter

We are Christians! That means we believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth as a baby, grew up, died for our sins and rose again from the dead. Jesus is the One who brings Life & Light into the world. But, being a Christian is not a very popular thing to be these times. It is very sad— even worse —because there are everlasting consequences for those who don’t believe in the Savior of the World. Also, we all know there are people who have not heard the true story of Jesus.

It is often difficult for us to tell others about Jesus. We might not use the right words or we might be made fun of or someone might not like us anymore. We often think we are not qualified to tell others about Jesus. We don’t know enough Scripture to convince them. We often forget one very important thing about telling others about Jesus. It is our God-given job to tell and God’s job to convince.

The Bible makes it plain in many places. This Christmas Eve in our children’s program at Lone Wolf we will see one of those events portrayed to us as the children tell the story of Jesus through Scripture and the perspective of the lowly shepherds. God did the first ‘telling’ through His messenger angels. Did He tell King Herod? No! Did He tell the Jerusalem Daily News? No! Did He tell the Rich and Famous? No Again! He told a group of illiterate stinky shepherds. He grew faith in their hearts so they would believe. The Bible tells us that, "When they had seen Him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them." Luke 2:17-18. The shepherds were probably the least qualified of anyone in the world to convince people about this Special Baby. And yet, people believed. If the shepherds can tell the story, surely we can too! And the telling has eternal consequences. Those who hear and believe have eternal life.

Come worship the Savior this Christmas Eve. See how the shepherds experienced that first Christmas and let God continue to grow faith in your heart.
